#Reikan focal target software
Should I? The reason I didn't test on the wide end was because the depth of field is larger than the telephoto end so I though any fine tunin will most likely not affect the wide end as the subject should still be in the large depth of field for the wide end. Using sophisticated image analysis which has been developed in close conjunction with the FoCal target, the software can detect tiny changes in the AF. Splitting the difference between 9 and 14 wouldn't likely be noticeable in that focal range.

Included with each FoCal Pro purchase is the licence key to use FoCal Pro. What focal lengths did you test? Are there different values for different focal lengths? You should bias to the distance and focal length you shoot most often. FoCal Pro Focus Calibration Software, Retail Box with Hard Target FoCal Pro from Reikan is purpose designed to provide a comprehensive and accurate way to focus calibrate and test modern Canon and Nikon DSLR cameras and lenses. Looking forward for you suggestions/commentsįine tuning a zoom is pick your poison. Should I just average the values ( (9+14) / 2 = 11.5 = 12) or bias it towards 25 x FL target distance result? Since the nearer one is to the subject, the lesser the depth of field. I repeated the the test 3 times for the 2 distances.

Nikon suggest to have distance to target greater than 25 x focal length whereas Canon suggests 50 x focal length.

By shifting the analysis point, FoCal can give you the best results all the time. FoCal's Target Optimisation can automatically adjust the analysis in case of camera movement, image shift due to lens element misalignment and several other situations where a results may be compromised. However, for longer focal lengths, this can prove impractical, but luckily also unnecessary. FoCal can make the best of any situation.

The 2 distance are what Nikon and Canon suggest to be used to fine tuning focus. Focus Target Additional Equipment for Reikan’s FoCal Software. As a rule-of-thumb, testing at around 50x the focal length of the lens gives good results (so for a 50mm lens you test with the target around 2.5m from the camera). Calibrate the lens at all 4 distances using FoCal and make a note of all 4 results. I tried focus adjustment with 2 different distance to target. Take the 4 distances from the dock software. I posted a comparison between my copies of Tamron 24-70mm and Nikon 24-70mm in the following post:Īs was observed by others, Tamron was front focusing quite a bit (apparent in the teddy bear shot in the above post).
